WHY CANNABIS?

In April 2007, a Harvard study discovered THC found in cannabis activates receptors and cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half by reducing significantly the ability of the cancer to spread.  In a separate study, British researchers injected standard doses of THC into mice that had been implanted with human lung cancer cells and found that tumors were reduced in size and weight by about 50 percent. According to these findings and numerous other studies, cannabis’s active compounds stops tumor cells from spreading in five types of cancers: brain, breast, lung, pancreatic, and prostate.

Medical cannabis has been found to relieve some symptoms of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries by exhibiting antispasmodic and muscle relaxant properties as well as stimulating appetite. It has also been successful in the treatment of Tourette syndrome. It is evident that this is a much needed element on the medical scene in America and could be a benefit to hundreds of thousands. Let’s embrace this bright light at the end of the tunnel for the patients suffering from these various maladies.

AN IDEA WHO’S TIME HAS COME

Right now there are two big factors that are facing the nation and could be helped by the legalization of medicinal cannabis. The medical situation in our country is in an abysmal state. This is a breakthrough that could help millions avoid suffering and pain without enduring the astronomical cost of many pharmaceuticals. Legalization would also save $7.7billion per year within state and federal expenditures that are now being used for law enforcement. It could also produce tax revenues of at least $2.4 billion annually. In 2010 the California Legislative Analyst Office predicts $1.4 B in sales taxes alone for the state of California.

Every two minutes someone in the United States is arrested for use or possession of cannabis.

A WIN-WIN SITUATION

The second benefit is the financial contribution this blossoming new business would add to the sagging economy with the addition of jobs as well as the revenue it will create. This industry could result in investment possibilities that could deliver monumental returns.

In 2006 a surprising study revealed that cannabis is the top cash crop in the nation, worth more than corn and wheat combined. It was the leading crop in twelve states, far surpassing grapes in California as well as tobacco in North Carolina. It was also close behind sales of apples in the state of Washington and cotton in Georgia.

So what are we waiting for? The legalization of medicinal cannabis could alleviate the pain and suffering of a multitude of patients while the industry itself could help a suffering economy.
